Sales Tax (VAT / FET / GST / HST / QST / Other)
Learn how to configure and apply Sales Tax settings in FL3XX, and how the system automatically calculates tax for domestic and international flights
Sales Tax
Often called VAT – Value-added Tax is a common type of tax levied on the transaction value of a product or service in more than 190 countries worldwide.
Depending on the country, this tax may have different names and structures (e.g., FET, GST, HST, QST in Canada). In many jurisdictions, air travel is usually exempted or has special treatment. For example:
-
In the EU, many member states exempt domestic tickets from VAT.
-
All EU states exempt intra-EU airline tickets from VAT.
How does FL3XX help you calculate Sales Tax in your sales transactions?
Settings
You can configure your Sales Tax settings in Settings → Configuration → Sales Tax. Operators can define the label and tax rules according to their needs (e.g., VAT, FET, GST, HST, QST).
Configuration fields include:
- Sales Tax Label, used to define display of tax in:
- Settings
- Sales panel
- Pricing view
- Reports
- Templates
- Mobile
-
Tax Number (e.g., VAT number, GST number)
-

-
Sales Tax for international flights [%]
-

Important: For region-specific tax logic (e.g., Canadian GST/HST/QST), Sales Tax must be configured differently.

Tax Calculation
FL3XX calculates Sales Tax automatically as follows:
- When calculation is set per Booking:
-
Booking with only international and foreign legs → International Sales Tax rate applies.
-
Booking reference with only domestic legs → Domestic Sales Tax rate applies.
-
Booking with both international and domestic legs → International Sales Tax rate applies (rule of thumb: if international/foreign legs predominate, Sales Tax is usually exempted).
-
You can also manually adjust the applied rate or the calculated absolute value directly in the calculation matrix.
